Hi everybody,

It is day 13 of my 12 week challenge to improve my health and fitness as well as inspire others to do the same.

The purpose of drawing my readers into my own personal challenge is to provide insight, support and encouragement to those undertaking their own personal challenge to lose weight and to improve their health.

One thing that I have realised so far in my challenge is that things do not always go as planned. And one of the biggest temptations is to scrap your 12 week challenge and to start again when things aren’t going well.

I understand this thought because the notion has easily crossed my mind too.

My week has been up and down in terms of sticking to what I preach, yet I believe that it is more important to commence your 12 week challenge than to wait for the perfect time to start. Lets face it, our lives are made up of different events that come and go. Some events are planned and some just crop up.

Regardless of what happens in my week, I plan to continue my 12 weeks. At the very least, more will be achieved by sticking with the plan than by not. So, if you fall ill 3 weeks into your 12 week challenge, don’t stop and start again, just keep going.

Yesterday in our work place we celebrated Blue Day (raising awareness of prostrate cancer in men) by wearing blue clothing, decorating our work stations and by bringing in blue food to work. Well, my planned diet fell apart and I ended up having blue cake, blue jelly and some pop corn. It was a great day yet by the end of it my body was lacking the normal protein requirements and I was really hungry. Consequently, I ended up eating too big a main meal and felt uncomfortable afterwards.

If you have not already done so, join my 12 week weight loss challenge by subscribing to it via my form on my blog at

Hey, remember in the classic movie ‘Mary Poppins’, there is a song
with the words ….’just a spoonful of sugar makes the medicine
go down…’

Well for some strange reason I was playing that tune in my mind
recently and I thought of these words ….’just a little bit of action
makes the measurements go down ….’

As silly as this all might sound, the truth of the matter is that
your desired outcome requires action. Regardless of how small that
action is to start off, but providing you are heading in the right
direction, the desired effect of lowering your measurements will
follow.

Most people give up on their goal to lose weight too soon. Losing
weight does require a lot of faith in yourself to believe that you
can shrink in size especially when you stand in front of a mirror
and wonder how you are going to lose those extra rolls of fat from
the waistline.

Some people have been overweight all of their life so they have no
memory of what it is like to be slim.

This is where faith comes into the picture. It requires a lot of
faith in yourself to believe that you can shred the extra kilos or
pounds when you have never been slim. You are travelling into
unchartered waters in your own personal weight loss journey.

As a suggestion, don’t leave your weight loss to chance. Have a
road map for losing weight. Use the 12 week weight loss challenge
worksheets. Apply the guidelines of getting some exercise, drinking
plenty of water, eating a colourful meal, avoiding high calorie
snacking and by filling in the worksheets and start being
accountable to yourself.

You just need to have enough faith and belief in yourself to
achieve the next step. Let the future take care of itself.

Start with getting today in order first.

Join my 12 Week Weight Loss Challenge today and get started
with your own challenge to lose the extra pounds and kilos
before 2010

The only cost to you is EFFORT

Hi everybody,

So often in life we are all looking for that magic pill to take
away our pain.

Similarly, we can be spending time looking for the next diet plan
or weight loss programme to bring about the changes in our weight.

Recently I was watching the Oprah show and she was interviewing an
American man who managed to get into the Guinness Book of Records
for losing the greatest amount of weight in the shortest period of
time.

What was even more interesting and sad at the same time was what
happened after he reached his goal weight. You may have guessed it.
He put all the weight back on and more.

This man was so big that part of the wall of his house had to be
dismantled so that the fire brigade could use a hoist to get him
out. This type of hoist is used for moving whales.

Anyway, there was something he said that caught my attention. He
said that once he reached his goal weight, that was the time that
his eating habits began to change again.

He was invited to have a burger at a takeaway outlet. He accepted
and thought that he would be fine. But he soon realised that having
a burger without fries or a drink was incomplete. So he had the
extras and then it just went from one thing to the next and before
he knew it, he was back to being overweight again.

This reminds me of something I have learned about goal setting. Not
only is it important to have a specific goal, but it is equally
important to have a goal to continue with once you reach your goal.

Take the example of football teams. If their goal is to get to the
finals, does this mean that they are likely to win in the finals?
Many football teams have been coached to reach the finals, but once
they get there, their results can crumble.

When it comes to weight loss, the best approach to take is to see
yourself positively managing your weight and health for life.

My 12 Week Weight Loss Challenges are not just about losing weight
within the 12 week period. My challenges are about ‘back to back’
challenges to assist others to achieve and maintain weight
management and better health.

It is the constant and sustained improvements that we make to our
lifestyle that will ultimately make a difference to our weight and
our health.

If you have not already done so, feel free to join my
12 week Weight loss Challenge at

See you there.

Hi

We have all heard it said that losing weight is simply a case of
burning off more calories than we consume.

Whilst this seems credible, my experience has shown that it is not
as simple as this.

There is more and more evidence to prove that the composition of
the nutritional content of the calories consumed will either make
or break your weight loss efforts.

Recently I was reading an interesting article by a leading American
Nutritionalist Doctor who highlighted an example of a lady who
exercised intensely to burn off extra calories yet without
significant results. As an experiment, she was encouraged to do
interval cardio training and her nutritional requirements were
adjusted. She was even given daily doses of Omega 3 oils to
increase her supply of essential fatty oils.

Within one month of this happening, she lost 15 pounds! Amazing.

The reason for this story is quite simple.

Change the composition of what you eat and drink. Change the way
you approach exercise. And change the way you think about
nutritional supplementation and then weight loss will follow.

I have certainly changed the way I have managed my weight and
health over the past 10 years and I now feel younger and healthier
compared to the way I was 15 years ago.

If you are serious about losing weight and improving your health,

How many of us kick ourselves continually for not living up to our

all aware of the dos and don’ts about health, but many of us
CONTINUALLY ignore them. Sometimes it is only when something
serious happens to our health, that we decide to make a decision to
change.

With this in mind, now is always the best time to MAKE STEPS to
achieve better health results in our lives.

Take action today and join my 12 week Weight Loss Challenge.

Hi everybody,

One thing I have learnt from my experiences in the Local Weight
Loss Challenges is this:-

Having a goal to loss weight is one thing, but having a realistic
plan to reach that goal is another thing.

You may have heard it said that if you want to lose weight, place a
slim photo of yourself from years ago on the fridge so that you can
see what you use to look like.

Or similarly, keep a pair of jeans that you use to fit into and put
them somewhere visible so that they are within your sights everyday.

Nothing wrong with this concept. VISUALISING and being clear about
our goals is the first step to achieving them.

But what seems to discourage a lot of people is the not knowing
just how long it will take for them to achieve their goal weight.

For many people, as well as for myself in the past, we have used ‘
guess work’ for wanting to achieve our goals.

Without a REALISTIC PLAN and some realism, having weight loss goals
can end up going nowhere and virtually stay as a ‘wish’.

Many people get scared to make a serious commitment just in case
they don’t reach their goal.

When participants join our Local Weight Loss Challenges, it does
not take them long into the challenge before they realise that it
is harder than they first thought.

This is where commitment and seriousness need to exist.

I find that participants become very disappointed when they
struggle to stick to new habits learned.

This is the point in the challenge where the participants can allow
themselves to become discouraged and disappointed.

In a nutshell, when people have a hard time seeing themselves
accomplishing things, they tend to give up.

As with anything worthwhile, learning the necessary new habits to
reaching your goals are the important thing.

Weight Loss Challenges are about breaking down the concepts that we
need to learn into bite size pieces so that we can begin applying
them with success.

There is NO HYPE to keep you in, just realistic learning.

If you are serious about weight loss and you need some assistance
and support, join our Online 12 Week Weight Loss Challenge, set
some goals and apply some new habits from week to week.

Just enter your name and email address to get started via our
opt-in form on this blog

Looking forward to assisting you.

Hi everybody,

When it comes to losing weight, it is easy to say such things as:-

“I’m really going to lose weight this week” or

“I’m not going to have anymore desserts” or

“I’m not going to have anymore coffee”

but do we really mean what we say?

One of the advantages of attending a Local Weight loss Challenge is
the benefit of gauging your own weight loss progress.

Every participant is weighed and measured in Week 1 and their
results are recorded.

At the start of every challenge from Week 2 onwards, they are only
weighed and their weight is recorded.

There are a number of reasons as to why we record these weights and
measurements.

Firstly, it is a way that the participant can keep a track of their
weight loss and measurement changes.

Secondly, we need to keep accurate records so that we can determine
who is the winner of the Challenge for losing the highest
percentage of body weight.

As with any challenge, some people are going to thrive with this
type of challenge and they are going to turn up each week and
continue to lose weight. These people will feel great about
themselves. They will focus their goal on winning the challenge by
achieving the highest percentage of body weight.

On the other hand, there are going to be a lot of people who will
have a different experience of the challenge.

They will turn up for Week 1 of the challenge with lots of
determination to lose weight, but they will have occasional weeks
where they will lose no weight or where possibly they might put
weight on!

These are common occurrences, but the key to sustaining long term
weight loss is to see past any setbacks.

The number one reason why most people will drop out of Weight loss
Challenges is rather obvious.

We all dislike the feeling of appearing like a failure if we are
not losing weight.

As with anything in life, most people will not want to continue to
do something if they believe that they are failing.

Nobody can protect people from feeling this way. These feelings
are real and they represent the NUMBER 1 challenge for everybody to
hurdle.

We need to get over ourselves and our feelings of disappointment,
and we need to get over what we think other people are thinking of
us!

Having said this, I want to suggest a simple task that you can do
to assist you with your personal weight loss challenge.

To assist you with your personal weight loss goals, I want to
encourage you to join our Online 12 Week Weight Loss Challenge.
Use the opt-in form on this blog to begin.

Once you join the challenge, you will receive weekly emails. We
have included a link within the emails to an online form so that
you can become accountable for your weight loss progress.

Each week I will include a link within my emails so that you can
record your weight loss progress.

By filling in the form and submitting it, you will be sending us
your weight

You will also have an opportunity to share any comments, and an
opportunity to share any weight loss tips.

So, you might wonder what is in it for you!

Firstly, you are becoming accountable to yourself by taking the
time each week to weigh yourself and to record it.

Secondly, you now have a goal to work towards by seeing your on the
path to losing weight each week..

And thirdly, you have the opportunity to be monitored by a Wellness
Coach (Maria or myself) to assist you with fine tuning your
progress if you need us to..

We hope that you take advantage of this opportunity and we look
forward to working with you soon.

Looking forward to hearing from you.

Hi everybody,

From my point of view, LOSING WEIGHT is a lot like the action of
SAVING MONEY.

Confused?

Well, from my perspective, both GOALS have similar attributes.

Consider the activity of planning to save money each fortnight.

Firstly, you decide how much you believe you can put aside into a
savings account. Once you make the decision, you decide to stick to
it.

(Remembering, if you were given a car loan, you would have no
choice but to pay back a certain amount of money each fortnight.)

For some people, they might need to review their last months
spending habits and work out what they believe to be a realistic
amount that have can put aside for saving.

On the other hand, planning to lose weight has similar
characteristics.

FIRSTLY, you decide how much weight you wish to lose. Most people
will refer back to a time in their lives when they were happy with
their weight and choose that weight.

SECONDLY, once you decide on the amount of the weight loss, you
need to come up with an eating plan to ensure that you will sustain
the weight loss by a particular date in the future.

Just like saving for a car, you need to know how much you need to
save and you need to have an end date in mind for saving towards it.

Weight loss is similar. If you decide to loss 15 kilos then decide
on a date in the future for achieving that goal and then work out
how many kilos that is each month.

IF YOU BELIEVE you can only lose a kilo each month
then you will LIKELY lose a 1 each month.

Keeping this in mind, it would take you 15 months to lose 15 kilos.

So, if a kilo a month is your goal, just as saving a $100 a month
is your goal, then you need to ensure that you can achieve it.

Some people will CHOOSE a PROVEN weight loss PROGRAMME because the
Wellness Coach can give an estimation of what the likely weight
loss will be.

As a Wellness Coach with Herbalife, I know that I can suggest
different programmes to suit as person’s budget and weight loss
goals.

But when it comes to losing weight under your own steam, you need
to BE ANALYTICAL of your EATING HABITS just as you need to be
analytical of your spending habits if you are intending to save
money.

This is where the 12 WEEK WEIGHT LOSS CHALLENGE website information
and MY EMAILS come into plan.

If you have not already done so, join my online 12 week weight loss
challenge by submitting your name and email address via the online
form on my website at http://jamestansell.com

Read the information and APPLY some of it to make the CHANGES
necessary to ensure weight loss.

As with finances, most people only receive a certain amount of
money from fortnight to fortnight so saving $100 might mean cutting
back on certain expenses.

As with weight loss, everybody’s metabolic rate for burning
calories will vary just as everybody’s wage might vary.

I can help you with understanding your metabolic rate and protein
needs.

And I can give you an estimate of what your daily allowance
for calories will be in order for you to lose weight.

Remember, it is a lot like having a budget for saving money. You
need to know what your calorie budget is each day. Once you have
this idea in mind, then you decide how you wish to PLAN YOUR MEALS
for the day to fit in with this calorie budget.

As with saving for a new car, it might be difficult at first until
you get use to your new financial budget.

Similarly, restricting your calorie budget might feel difficult at
first until you adjust mentally and physically.

Weight loss programmes like HERBALIFE do MAKE IT much EASIER
because they take the guess work out of it.

Nevertheless, if you do it alone, apply the principles and
materials from the 12 Week Weight Loss Challenge, and see yourself
moving towards being a slimmer you.

Let me know if you are having some success.
I would love to hear from you.

bye for now.

Hi everybody,

Recently, Maria and I spent the day up at the Sunshine
Coast visiting the Pineapple Plantation and
Caloundra.

This week I thought that I would make a comment
about eating out.

There is one thing that I would like to share
with you from my experience of spending a day
out up at the Sunshine Coast.

When it comes to LOSING WEIGHT, visiting
tourist attractions are going to make it
difficult.

Most TOURIST OUTLETS generally have products
that are HIGH IN CALORIES such as desserts,
lollies, cakes and parfaits etc or HIGH IN FATS
such as fish and chips, and pies.

Spending a day out can sabotage your weight loss
efforts if you don’t PLAN YOUR DAY.

I know from experience, avoid these items of
food because once you start, the more likely it is
that you will crave for more.

HIGH CALORIE ITEMS such as ICE CREAMS and
desserts are filled with empty calories.

Calories of this nature will give you energy for
a short while but will quickly bring you back
to a spot of feeling hungry once again.

Your body begins to crave for more food to
satisfy your nutritional needs.

Fried foods such as fish and chips can be high
in fats due to the methods of being prepared.

CHIPS are fried in SATURATED FATS, salt is
added for taste and once again you end up with
high calories and the proportion of fat in
your diet is too high.

As a suggestion, try to AVOID the above TAKE
AWAY
foods.

If you are serious about weight loss, PREPARE
AHEAD and take an eski with your own selection
of foods for the day.

Have a bbq at the beach and take a piece of
chicken or lean meat, or buy some fish and grill
it or cook it in foil.

Salad is easy to prepare and take it with you as
well. Fruit is generally easy to take with you
or easy to purchase when you are out and about.

AVOID SOFT DRINKS. The calorie content is too
high and they do not substitute water.

Purchase a large bottle of water and drink
from it regularly during the day.

As a note, a can of coke is 160 calories with
about 10 teaspoons of sugar.

If you do have a coffee, make sure that you
DRINK PLENTY OF WATER so that you avoid
dehydration.

Well, I hope that this assists
you with your weight loss efforts.

Looking forward to next time.

If you have time, write and let us know how
things are going.

Oh by the way,

while I was out yesterday, my wife and I spent
a few quiet moments having a choc coated almond
protein bar and a cup of hot herbal beverage.

Herbalife protein bars are fantastic products
for satisfying your hunger needs and the herbal
beverage is refreshing and uplifting.

Protein Bars

Herbal Beverage

They are a great combination.

Also, not sure about you, but I know that I get
pretty tired at the end of a day’s outing
especially when it comes to driving home.

For this reason, I took a sachet of LiftOff
with me. It works like a treat. And it is a
great substitute to falling asleep at the
wheel of a vehicle.
